Old School House, Co. Clare
This project involved the conversion of a two classroom heritage protected school house for use as a domestic residence(house).
The school did not readily lend itself for easy conversion to a house due to the extremely high ceilings and conflicts with existing windows which had to be preserved; the solution conceived was to insert or drop a box containing the first floor accommodation into the existing space.
This project incorporates a number of sustainable features; it is super insulated, air tight, has heat recovery ventilation, wood burning stoves with external combustion air feed, high efficiency boiler and programmable heating controls.
Leyden Hassett & Associates provided full architectural and engineering services on this project.
